    The Florida Orchestra opens its pops season with some of the most ebullient tunes from the swing era. With Swing Is the Thing, conductor and arranger Jeff Tyzik will lead the orchestra in the danceable tunes that would influence the development of pop music, jazz and blues.

  10. 'Annie,' with double casting, to open season at Live Oak Theatre

    BROOKSVILLE — The hit musical Annie first opened on Broadway in 1977. The popular feature film, starring Carol Burnett and Aileen Quinn, followed in 1982. And many young girls dreamed that they, too, someday could perform as the eternally optimistic red-headed orphan.

    There will be two casts presenting the Live Oak Theatre production of “Annie.” Starring as Annie will be Elizabeth Kessel, left, and Alannah Allocco. Sir Charles Oswald III, “Ozzie”, a 6-year-old Portuguese Podengo, will star as Sandy. The show will be presented weekends Oct. 13 to 22 at Faith Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Brooksville.
